Full Moon
Party Bars
Chaweng
- Ark Bar
Slap bang in
the centre of Chaweng, the name
literally refers to a cavernous
nightclub at the end of a busy soi
of bars. In practice though, the
whole street and surrounding area is
known as Green Mango. The club
itself mainly attracts 18-30
holidaymakers looking to party and
meet members of the opposite sex,
and plays cheesy euro-house all
night long. The bars surrounding it
are all more or less the same
musically speaking and most have a
phalanx of bar girls to entice
customers. There are also a couple
of go go bars, a kathoey show, food
stalls, OK restaurants, a
traditional English pub and lots of
sport shown on dozens of TV's. |

Lamai Beach -
GO GO Bars
Lamai's most
famous type of watering hole, the
slightly seedy go-go bars with their
very friendly dancing barmaids.
Although not to everyones liking
both of Lamai's main streets have
girly bars galore, usually
consisting of a bar and a pole both
of which are danced on by the
scantily clad ladies. Stroll down
any one Lamai's streets and you will
soon be beckoned into a bar with
both pretty girls and cheap beer.
The newest and largest of these
establishments, Stringfellas is
situated behind Fusion nightclub and
is modeled on its London namesake
with revolving poles and pounding
pop music. The dancers tend to look
fairly bored but the club is the
most modern in town and is fully air
conditioned. Main Road, Lamai. |

Maenam -
Sunset Cruises
Climb aboard
the Tangoroa, a yacht steeped in
history, for a romantic evening on
the water. This is sure to leave
with you a memorable experience.
These cruises depart on Tuesdays and
Saturdays at 17:00 and returning at
19:30 p.m. Drinks and canapés are
included in the price. Also on offer
here are Full Moon cruises that take
guests along the picturesque
coastline of the island and include
dinner and drinks. If being taken,
doesn't suit you and you would
prefer a romantic cruise alone, you
can also charter the boat (including
its captain and boat-boy) for a
nominal fee. Select your own
romantic course towards the sunset
or opt to sail to one of the many
great snorkelling spots if wishing
to go out during daylight hours. |

Bophout -
Gecko Village
A very
pleasant beachside setting enhances
one of Samui's most musically astute
bars. Resident DJ Gary G plays an
eclectic range of house and ambient
tunes throughout the week and hosts
the Gecko's weekly Sunday Session
party, which kicks off at 2pm and
regularly features big name guest
DJ's and live percussionists.
There's also a Full Moon Warm Up
Party and the resort has its own
speedboat to get revellers over to
Ko Pha Ngan afterwards. The Gecko
has bungalows for rent - but they
can get very noisy on party nights. |

Big Buddha
Beach - Heart & Soul
Heart & Soul
Bar and Grill is Samui's first venue
dedicated to the smooth and groovy
sounds of Northern Soul and Jazz.
Owner Lee Hughes draws on his
extensive CD collection to give
patrons a taste of the music that
laid the foundations for the UK's
rave scene. If names like The
Velvets, Mickie Champion, The Ojays,
Gladys Knight or Sheila Ferguson
don't mean anything to you, then
Heart & Soul is a great place to
discover them. The bar also serves a
fine range of cocktails and a tasty
selection of marinated steaks and
kebabs fresh from the charcoal
grill. |
